Searches
Search terms are processed by the web server to return results. The application does not log searches or send them to an analytics service. No visitor geolocation is requested.
Cookies and analytics
The directory application sets no cookies and uses no third-party analytics, advertising or external map services.
Server logs
The directory runtime does not record HTTP access logs or search queries. Its container diagnostic output is rotated with a 10 MB file limit and at most 3 files. This is a storage limit, not a fixed retention period in days. The reverse proxy does not record access logs.
Corrections
You can prepare and download a correction note in your browser. Nothing is transmitted from the correction page. You decide whether to email the note to the editor.
Email requests
If you email the editor, your address and message are used to handle your enquiry. Do not include unnecessary personal information. Email is handled by the editor’s email provider, independently of this website. Contact [email protected] for questions about information you have supplied or to request its correction or deletion; applicable record-keeping requirements may limit deletion.
Content delivery and security
Cloudflare provides content delivery and security services. Cloudflare processes network and HTTP request data, including IP addresses, to deliver and protect the website. Processing may take place outside South Africa. Its privacy policy explains its processing and international transfers. Cloudflare may use security cookies when a protection feature or challenge requires them. These are separate from the directory’s aggregate page-view counter. Street page counts
The home page ranks street pages by aggregate views in the last 24 hours. We store only a street identifier, minute bucket and view count, without IP addresses, cookies, visitor identifiers, search terms or referrers. Known bots, automated checks, prefetches and HEAD requests are excluded using request headers; this filter cannot identify every bot. Repeated visits can count again, so these are page views, not unique people. Buckets older than 25 hours are deleted at the next counter read or write.
